Cyrano's ArtSpace Gallery Welcomes John Coyne: Landscape Paintings
First Friday Reception on December 6, from 5-7pm
Exhibit continues through December 27, Open on Thursdays and Fridays from 1-5pm
John Coyne recently completed a stainless steel and bronze sculpture for the Municipality of Anchorage reflecting the unique character and history
of the Spenard neighborhood (corner of Spenard and Benson).
While he is well known for his metal public art installations, John is also a dedicated and avid landscape painter working on a series ofoil paintings
that interpret the Alaskan environment and man’s place within it.
"Up to now my work has focused on Southcentral Alaskan landscapes, cityscapes and the interaction between the two, John says. "I am especially intrigued
with how humanity situates itself within the immensity of the Northern wilderness. Our industry and structurers change the landscape, and in turn
the landscape changes us. To the uninitiated eye our footprint can seem unfinished and chaotic. To my eye this juxtaposition creates a poignancy
that inspires mywork."
